Governor Strickland's Proposed Budget Cuts in Library Funding
Governor Strickland's proposed budget drastically cuts Ohio's public library funding. It will force closure of many of Ohio's public libraries or critically reduce hours and services.

Libraries have been slashing their budgets to maintain services with a 20% reduction in state dollars. Governor Strickland's proposal of 30% reduction is in addition to that loss.

During these economic times Ohio's public libraries are experiencing unprecedented increases in demand for services. Ohioans are turning to their public libraries for free high speed Internet to access information on employment opportunities, families are beginning summer reading programs, and people of all ages are turning to the library for information and education.

Action must be taken this week. The Governor's budget is effective July 1, 2009 if approved. Ohioans should contact the Governor's office to express their opposition to his proposal to cut library funding at 614-466-3555. They should urge their legislators to reject the Governor's plan. They may contact their local library for contact information.
